Delight in the layers of tender sweet potatoes enveloped in a rich brown sugar sauce, perfect for family gatherings or cozy dinners.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 medium sweet potatoes, peeled and sliced (approximately 2 lbs)
  • 1 cup brown sugar (light or dark)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1 cup heavy cream (or half-and-half)
  • 1/2 cup pecans, chopped

Instructions

  1. Preheat Your Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with nonstick cooking spray.
  2. Prepare Sweet Potatoes: Peel and slice sweet potatoes into thin rounds, about 1/8-inch thick.
  3. Make the Sauce: In a mixing bowl, whisk together brown sugar, melted butter, cinnamon, nutmeg, and heavy cream until smooth.
  4. Layer the Casserole: In the prepared baking dish, arrange half of the sweet potato slices in an even layer. Drizzle half of the sauce over them. Repeat with remaining sweet potatoes and sauce.
  5. Bake: Cover tightly with aluminum foil (shiny side down) and bake for about 40 minutes until the sweet potatoes are tender.
  6. Finish Baking: Remove foil for the last 10-15 minutes to allow the top to become golden-brown. For added crunch, sprinkle chopped pecans on top during this time.
  7. Serve: Transfer generous portions onto plates and drizzle with any remaining sauce before serving.
