- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter (softened)
- 2 cups fresh cherries (pitted and halved)
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 tsp almond extract
- Reserved crumb mixture from the crust
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8×8 baking dish with nonstick spray or line it with parchment paper.
- In a mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Add softened butter and mix until crumbly.
- Set aside about one cup of this mixture for topping.
- Stir in pitted and halved cherries and almond extract into the remaining mixture.
- Press the cherry mixture evenly into the bottom of your prepared baking dish.
- Bake in the preheated oven for about 20 minutes until lightly golden brown around the edges.
- Sprinkle your reserved crumb mixture on top of the cherry base and bake again for another 15-20 minutes until golden brown on top.
