Ingredients
Scale
4 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 cup granulated sugar
2 1/4 tsp instant yeast (1 packet)
1 cup warm milk (110°F)
1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
1 large egg
1 tbsp red food coloring
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp salt
8 oz cream cheese, softened
2 cups powdered sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
In a large mixing bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let sit until frothy (about 5 minutes).
Mix in melted butter, egg, cocoa powder, red food coloring, cinnamon, and half of the flour until combined.
Gradually add remaining flour until a soft dough forms.
Knead on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth.
Place dough in an oiled bowl, cover with plastic wrap or a damp cloth, and let rise in a warm spot until doubled in size (about 1 hour).
Once risen, punch down the dough and roll it out into a rectangle about half an inch thick on a floured surface.
Spread softened butter over the rolled dough and sprinkle generously with sugar mixed with cinnamon.
Roll up tightly from one edge to another and cut into equal sections.
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Allow rolls to rise again for about 20 minutes while preheating.
Bake for approximately 25 minutes until golden brown.
In a bowl, beat softened cream cheese with powdered sugar and vanilla extract until smooth.
Drizzle cream cheese frosting over warm cinnamon rolls before serving.
