Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 oz spicy Italian sausage (or chicken/turkey sausage)
  • 8 oz penne or fusilli pasta
  • 1/4 cup raw honey
  • 1/2 cup BBQ sauce (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1 cup bell peppers (mixed colors, chopped)
  • 1 medium sweet onion (chopped)
  • 3 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 tsp red pepper flakes (adjust to taste)
  • 2 cups chicken broth or water

Instructions

  1. Chop the onion and bell peppers into bite-sized pieces. Slice the sausage into rounds.
  2. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat, add a splash of oil, and cook the sausage until browned (5-7 minutes). Remove and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, sauté the chopped onion and bell peppers for about 3-4 minutes until softened. Add minced garlic and red pepper flakes, cooking for an additional minute.
  4. Return the cooked sausage to the skillet with uncooked pasta. Pour in enough broth to cover everything by about an inch; bring to a boil.
  5. Reduce heat to low once boiling. Stir in honey and BBQ sauce, cover, and simmer for 15-20 minutes until pasta is tender.
  6. Let it sit for a few minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired.
