6 medium Granny Smith or Honeycrisp apples, cored and sliced
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 tsp cinnamon
1 cup old-fashioned oats
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
In a large bowl, toss the apple slices with brown sugar and cinnamon until evenly coated. Set aside.
In another bowl, combine old-fashioned oats, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and softened butter.
Mix with your fingers or a pastry cutter until the mixture is crumbly but still chunky.
Layer the apple mixture evenly at the bottom of your Dutch oven.
Sprinkle the oat topping generously over the apples.
Cover with a lid or aluminum foil and bake for about 30 minutes until bubbly and golden brown.
Carefully remove from oven and let it cool slightly before serving warm with ice cream if desired.
