Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet (2 ¼ tsp) active dry yeast
  • ¾ cup warm water (110°F/43°C)
  • 1 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp dried Italian herbs

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast; let sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. In another bowl, mix flour and salt. Gradually add the dry mixture to the yeast mixture, stirring until combined.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Let it rise in a greased bowl covered with plastic wrap for about an hour or until doubled in size.
  4. Punch down the dough, divide it into equal pieces, and roll each into long ropes shaped like hearts.
  5. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Place the shaped breadsticks on the sheet and let rest for another 30 minutes before baking.
  6. Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown. Serve warm.
