Ingredients
Scale
1 pound lean ground turkey
1/2 cup breadcrumbs (plain or seasoned)
1 large egg
1 small onion, finely chopped
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
Salt and pepper to taste
28 oz can crushed tomatoes
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1 cup low-sodium chicken broth
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly spray a baking dish with nonstick cooking spray.
In a large bowl, combine ground turkey, breadcrumbs, egg, chopped onion, minced garlic, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, salt, and pepper. Mix gently until just combined.
Roll the mixture into meatballs about one inch thick and place them on a tray.
In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine crushed tomatoes with brown sugar and chicken broth. Stir well until blended.
Pour half of the sauce into the bottom of your prepared baking dish.
Nestle the turkey meatballs in the sauce and pour the remaining sauce over them.
Cover with foil and bake for about 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake an additional 10-15 minutes until meatballs are cooked through and slightly golden on top.
