Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package phyllo dough (16 oz), thawed
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts
  • 1 cup chopped pistachios
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup pure maple syrup
  • 1/4 cup water

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish with nonstick spray or butter.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine chopped walnuts, pistachios, and ground cinnamon. Set aside.
  3. Lay one sheet of phyllo dough in the baking dish and brush it generously with melted butter. Repeat this process six times for six layers.
  4. Evenly spread half of your nut mixture over the phyllo layers.
  5. Layer three more sheets of phyllo dough brushed with butter over the nuts, then add another layer of the nut mixture. Continue layering until all ingredients are used or you reach about twenty layers.
  6. Use a sharp knife to cut diamond shapes into the top layer of phyllo. Bake for approximately 45 minutes or until golden brown.
  7. While the baklava is baking, prepare the syrup by combining maple syrup and water in a saucepan over medium heat until warmed through.
  8. Once baked, remove from the oven and pour warm maple syrup over hot baklava. Allow it to soak for at least 30 minutes before serving.
