Ingredients
Scale
4 cups all-purpose flour
1 packet (2¼ teaspoons) active dry yeast
½ cup warm water (110°F / 43°C)
¼ cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon salt
3 large eggs (1 for egg wash)
¼ cup vegetable oil
Instructions
In a small bowl, combine warm water and sugar. Sprinkle yeast over the top and let sit for about five minutes until frothy.
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour and salt. Create a well in the center and add eggs (reserve one), activated yeast mixture, and oil. Mix until combined.
Turn dough onto a floured surface and knead for about eight to ten minutes until smooth and elastic.
Place kneaded dough in an oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size—about one hour.
Punch down dough gently, divide into three equal pieces, roll each into long strands about twelve inches long, then braid them together.
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Place braided loaf on a lined baking sheet. Brush with reserved egg wash before baking for about thirty minutes or until golden brown.
